Membership

The Edmonton Youth Orchestra was founded in 1952 when 12 music students met at a high school in downtown Edmonton to talk about forming a music group. Today, the EYO Association is an integral part of Edmonton’s cultural life. The Edmonton Youth Orchestra Association supports two orchestras: the Senior Orchestra (ages 14 to 24), and the Intermediate Orchestra (ages 11 to 20). EYO Intermediate Orchestra members must be 11 yrs old by September 1 of the year of the audition.

Opportunities are provided for young musicians to:

  • develop their orchestral skills

  • to increase their knowledge and appreciation of music

  • to enrich the cultural life of the community through concerts and benefit performances.

The EYO program is widely regarded as one of the finest in Canada. It is funded through ticket sales, membership fees, fund-raising events, government grants and donations from both individuals and the corporate sector.

Annual Fees

$525      $300 Membership Fee + $225 Volunteer Commitment Fee (see below)

+   $100 Senior Orchestra members only (Concert trip, when applicable)

Due by the first rehearsal in September

(Cheque, cash or e-transfer)

A bursary program is available to assist young musicians who require budget support in order to participate in the EYO.

Volunteer Commitment Fee:  The EYO is a volunteer-supported, non-profit, and federally-registered charitable organization. Volunteering translates into funds and time that contribute to the smooth running of the EYO program, allowing the EYO to remain affordable and accessible. Volunteering also provides the added benefit of being wonderfully rewarding by building and strengthening relationships within the organization.

A volunteer commitment payment of $225 is required from each family by the first rehearsal of the season. Upon completion of a family's volunteer commitment this $225 is reimbursed. Where volunteer positions are not available or a family opts to donate their volunteer commitment fee, in lieu of volunteering, a donation receipt for income tax purposes is provided.
